Cognitive Decline

Gradual loss of memory, attention, and thinking ability with aging.

Cognitive decline refers to the progressive deterioration of cognitive functions including memory, attention, processing speed, and executive function. Age-related cognitive decline is distinct from dementia but may progress to mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or Alzheimer's disease. Contributing factors include neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, reduced cerebral blood flow, and neurotransmitter imbalances. Supplements studied for cognitive support include omega-3 DHA (neuronal membrane integrity), vitamin D (neuroprotection), B vitamins (homocysteine reduction), phosphatidylserine (cell membrane support), lion's mane mushroom (nerve growth factor), and bacopa monnieri (acetylcholinesterase inhibition).
