Dermatitis

Inflammation of the skin causing itching, redness, and irritation.

Dermatitis is a general term for skin inflammation presenting with itching, redness, swelling, and sometimes blistering or crusting. Seborrheic dermatitis (affecting oily areas like the scalp, face, and chest) and atopic dermatitis (eczema) are common types that can affect the scalp and contribute to hair problems. Scalp seborrheic dermatitis is associated with Malassezia yeast overgrowth and may respond to zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide, or ketoconazole. Nutritional factors including omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, zinc, and probiotics may support skin barrier function and modulate the inflammatory response.
